Musila credits his parents with instilling in him toughness, hard work and perseverance. Growing up in a society that knew less about education Hon. Musila was lucky to have attended primary school and having passed the Common Entrance Examination he joined secondary education. In 1997, Hon. Musila went into politics and successfully vied for the Mwingi South Constituency Parliamentary seat with KANU ticket and he was sworn in as a Member of Parliament in 1998. He then went on to be re-elected in the 2002 with NARC ticket and ODM-K ticket in 2007 elections. His re-election was attributed to the work he did to the constituents for the 3 terms he served even bearing the name “Meko” which means deeds/actions. In his era as a Member of Parliament, he served as a Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly from 2002 to 2007 and also an Assistant Minister of Defense from 2008 to 2013.

In the first ‘6 ballot elections’ held in 2013, Hon. Musila vied for a Senator’s position and worn the hotly contested seat becoming the first Senator of Kitui County since promulgation on new constitution, 2010 having garnered 156,690 votes out of 272,243 votes cast followed by Hon.
