Education Featured

In any Society, education is an important aspect for socio-economic development. As Nelson Mandela said, Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Hon. Senator David Musila knows this too well and that is why he has invested heavily on the education sector. He believes that all citizens - children and adults alike deserve quality education that gives them the opportunity to succeed in various echelons of life.

Since Hon. Musila was elected as a legislator in 1997 elections to represent the former Mwingi South Constituency, he has done a tremendous job in improving the education sector in the constituency and all over Kenya. He holds a record in his three five year terms he served before becoming a senator for constructing 59 new secondary schools from the existing 13 secondary schools in the constituency making the number of secondary schools to 72. In addition, he rehabilitated 65 primary schools for better learning environments of pupils.

He is famously known for his fight in ensuring that there is fairness in the education sector and that students are not deprived their rights to certificates after they have done the examinations. His fight before the floor of house against the withholding of KSCE Certificates by School Heads since students could not proceed to the next level of higher education is eminent. He stated time and again that this is a prohibited move that the heads of department involved should look into and ensure students receive their certificates. On 14 July, 2014 Hon. Musila’s fight bore fruits after the President gave a directive that schools will no longer be allowed to withhold examination certificate to students for failure to clear fee balance which was delivered by the Deputy President, Hon. William Ruto.

This directive did not stand for long for school principals failed to comply with the directive and therefore it prompted Hon. Musila to call for an amendment of the Kenya National Examination Council Act to compel KNEC to send certificates directly to the students through the Office of the District Officer after they have done their examinations. This Bill, The Kenya National Examinations Council (Amendment) Bill, 2015 is now on the floor of the house and on process. Hon. Musila has also been involved in various campaigns and edicts concerning equal and quality education as encapsulated in the Country Wide Civic Education on New Devolved System report published in March 11, 2014 as well as the Provision of Education for Deceased Officers’ Children discourse promulgated on March 12, 2014.

As per the motion christened the Establishment of Institution for Children with Special Needs and Disabilities in Every County, October 1, 2014, Senator Musila pushed for better institutions for disabled children in terms of classes. He also urged that students to be able to study up to the university level or where their potential ends as well as having the appropriate materials for study as well as enough teachers.

Senator Musila believes in quality education for all.
